Happy Mother’s day to all the awesome Mothers, grandmothers, carers and mother figures in our community. This is our Mother’s Day card to you, with self-care resources and tips to nourish yourself.
And if you aren't a mother yourself, please share this with a mum you appreciate.
Dear Mother - we see you. We are mothers too. We see your care, your concern, your courage and your commitment to making a difference for your kids.
I’ll never forget the moment I was in my backyard, in the days after giving birth to my youngest daughter, overwhelmed by the beauty and the enormity of my responsibility to her and to her sister. As I looked out into my garden I remembered the faces of my grandmothers far away and knew I didn’t need to do this alone. I could draw on all the strength and creativity that I had learned from them.
As my daughters have grown, as my care and concern for their future has grown I have discovered it’s the strength, the love, the courage and the creativity of mothers everywhere that gives me hope, that keeps me going.
Dear Mother - you inspire us daily with your creativity, your persistence, your generosity and your leadership. We acknowledge that you are often a quiet hero driving action on climate change - in your family, in your local schools, in your community, in your workplace and in interactions with elected representatives.
We know it’s not easy juggling the responsibilities of mothering, the responsibilities of work and community contribution, along with the uncertain future that we face. We want to remind you - you are not alone. We’re with you as you face the challenges. We’re with you for the moments of celebration too.
Mothers are amazing, and we are stronger together.
As mothers we are part of a powerful tradition of being agents of change, often against impossible odds. Mothers throughout history have been at the forefront of movements to create a just, safe and equitable world for the sake of their children's future.
And perhaps most importantly, mothers instill values in their children. Perhaps like us you have benefited from the values of empathy, compassion, and social responsibility that other mothers have demonstrated? This tradition of activism, the sense of civic duty and social engagement is carried forward by the children and grandchildren, creating a lasting legacy of positive impact.
We thank the mothers who have come before us for this. And we thank you, too.
Mothers are amazing and we are stronger when we take care of ourselves and each other.
Dear Mother, please take care of you.
In amongst all that you do, please make space to care for yourself too.
Can you take a moment right now?
We invite you to place one hand on your heart, one hand on your belly, give yourself a warm hug and thank yourself for all that you do. Let a smile widen here and let that smile be for you.
Today and everyday we value you. As a token of our appreciation we’d love to share these 6 tips to nourish yourself from Australian Parents for Climate Action Founder Suzie Brown, and this empowering meditation session from our 2022 Wellbeing Space.
Thank you for all you do, we are stronger, more creative and more courageous with you.
Yours in appreciation,
Bianca with the wonderful Mums of the Australian Parents for Climate Action Board and Staff, Harriet, Marie, Suzie, Ursula, Heidi, Nathalie, Edwina, Sarah, Vanessa and Laura.
