You pay full price at the pump. Mining giants get billions back.
Every year, Australian mining companies claim $4.5 billion in taxpayer fuel subsidies, nearly half the entire national scheme. Coal mining alone takes $1.4 billion of it! This is public money, handed to some of the most profitable companies in the world, while families pay full price at the pump.
There is a simple fix already gaining momentum inside the government: cap these subsidies at $50 million per company per year. Require the biggest miners to reinvest anything above that cap into clean technology and redirect the savings to what our kids actually need: childcare, schools, healthcare, and cost-of-living relief.
Farmers, tradies, and small businesses receive fuel credits too, and this reform protects every single one of them. The cap only hits the giants at the top. The ones who need it least and claim it most.
It is a fair deal. And our kids deserve it.
We are calling on the Prime Minister and National Cabinet to cap fuel tax credits at $50 million per company and put that money back into our children's future.
Our kids come first.

Minister for Infrastructure, Transport, Regional Development and Local Government
Dear Minister King,
We write to you as concerned parents, because the evidence is clear: truck pollution is harming our children, and the federal government has the power to act.
New research, authored by leading Australian academics has quantified what communities living on freight corridors have known for years.
Heavy vehicle exhaust emissions are causing preventable deaths and unnecessary illness. The annual health cost exceeds $6.8 billion - borne by patients, taxpayers, and workers.
Our children are the most vulnerable. They breathe faster. Their bodies are still developing.
This is a national problem. Freight corridors run through suburban streets in Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Perth and Adelaide. Parents in every capital city raise their kids in neighbourhoods, and send their children to schools where the air they breathe is making them sick and affecting their development.
Minister, this year your government will revise the Heavy Vehicle National Law. We urge you to use this opportunity to protect Australian children. Specifically, we call on you to:
We ask you to make children’s health part of the equation when you reform the Heavy Vehicle National Law this year. Our kids cannot wait.
Yours sincerely,
Parents for Climate
On behalf of parents, carers and grandparents across Australia
Add your name to stand with parents across Australia calling on Minister King to protect children from harmful truck pollution.

The government’s own National Climate Risk Assessment confirms what parents across Australia already know: climate change is putting our kids and communities in danger.
As parents, we don’t take chances with our kids safety - whether it’s buckling a seatbelt, fitting a car seat, or being sun smart, we act on the best advice. We expect our government to do the same. That means shaping climate policy with science, not politics, and committing to net zero by 2035 with strong pollution cuts this decade. Anything less puts our kids' future at risk.
Dear Prime Minister and Ministers,
As parents, carers, grandparents and community members, we call on you to put the safety of our children at the centre of climate policy. The National Climate Risk Assessment highlights the escalating dangers of extreme heat, bushfires, floods, and other climate impacts. Just as parents act on expert advice to protect their children, we expect our government to act on the best available science. We urge you to adopt science-led climate policy that cuts pollution at the pace required, protects our communities, and gives every child the chance to grow up safe and healthy. Their safety cannot and should not wait.
Sincerely,
Australian parents, carers and grandparents and family members.
On February 10th, 2025, Independent MP Dr. Sophie Scamps introduced the Wellbeing of Future Generations Bill to the Australian Parliament - an historic step toward making sure our leaders consider the long-term impact of their decisions on the generations to come.
This Bill gives us a powerful opportunity to shift politics from short-term thinking to long-term solutions - on climate, health, cost of living, education, and more. It’s common-sense, cross-party, and urgently needed.
As parents and carers, we know what it means to plan for the future. It’s time our governments did the same.

| ✅ | Establish a Federal Wellbeing of Future Generations Framework to guide decision-making |
| ✅ | Create a positive duty for governments to consider future generations in all major policies |

I call on the Federal Parliament to support the Wellbeing of Future Generations Bill to ensure Australia plans for the future our kids deserve
Our kids deserve clean air, safe homes, and a better tomorrow. But new coal and gas projects threaten their future.
Right now, fossil fuel expansion is putting Australian families at risk - polluting the air our children breathe, driving up energy costs, and making extreme weather events worse.
We can choose a different future. One where families have healthy, affordable energy and a safe climate to grow up in.
It starts with raising our voices and showing up for what matters. Every voice strengthens the call for real action.

To Prime Minister Anthony Albanese, Chris Bowen MP - Minister for Climate and Energy, and Murray Watt - Minister for the Environment,
I am deeply concerned about the continued expansion of coal and gas projects in Australia. New fossil fuel projects threaten our children's future - polluting the air they breathe, contributing to rising household costs, and accelerating the climate crisis.
I call on you to commit to:
🚫 No new coal and gas projects in Australia
🌱 Investment in clean, affordable energy that benefits all families
🏡 A safe climate for all kids to thrive
Our kids deserve better. Later is too late. Act now.
Update – July 2026: The government is scrapping the scheme behind the greenwashing.
We didn't just take on one company. We took on the certification that made "carbon neutral" fossil fuels possible in the first place. After three years of submissions, research, media and a Federal Court case, the Australian Government has confirmed it will close Climate Active — the federal scheme that let companies stamp "carbon neutral" on coal and gas products as long as they bought offsets. Hundreds of businesses were certified under it. Many of the energy retailers we called out pointed straight to it as their defence.
It's gone because parents refused to let it go.Read the full story of how we got here →
But the job is only half done. The government is now deciding what replaces Climate Active: strong standards, or nothing at all. And as many as 13 energy retailers are still marketing fossil fuel products with "offset" and "carbon neutral" spin. That's why the open letter still matters. Help us get more than 2,500 signatures to share in our submission to the Federal Government on the future of climate claim standards.
As parents committed to a safe climate for our children, we strive to make responsible choices. However, companies like EnergyAustralia have made this challenging by falsely marketing polluting products as ‘carbon neutral’.
In a landmark development, our legal action led to a settlement where EnergyAustralia publicly admitted that carbon offsets do not prevent or undo the harms caused by burning fossil fuels. They have ceased offering their 'Go Neutral' product to new customers and removed related marketing from their website.
This is a significant victory against greenwashing, demonstrating the power of parent-led action.
This win has put the industry on notice—but we need your help to keep up the pressure. Join us as we fight for honest climate claims, consumer protection, and a future free from fossil fuel spin.

After the EnergyAustralia settlement, we reviewed how Australia's 34 biggest energy retailers market their products: every "carbon neutral" claim, every "offset" promise, on every website.
More than one in three were at risk of misleading their customers.
6 "Worst Offenders" marketed fossil fuel products as fully "carbon neutral" — most of them citing the federal Climate Active scheme.
7 "Cunning Compensators" leaned on "offsets" to sell fossil fuels, sometimes with a partial disclaimer.
3 "Newly Fixed" dropped or acknowledged the limits of their offset claims. Credit where it's due.
We published the lot, named the companies, and put the rest of the industry on notice.
85% of the parents we surveyed said the government needs stricter rules on sustainability claims. In July 2026, the government agreed to scrap the certification scheme that so many of these retailers were hiding behind.
But 13 companies were still at it. And the scheme's closure doesn't automatically fix their marketing.

While we've made significant progress with EnergyAustralia, the fight against greenwashing continues. We need your support to ensure all energy companies provide transparent and truthful information about their environmental impact.
That’s why we need you - and the people you can connect with - to sign our open letter calling on all power companies to stop greenwashing.
To the power companies of Australia,
We, the undersigned, are parents and other caregivers who care about our kids’ climate.
Many of us are time-poor, so when we’re trying to choose the best products for our families we rely on companies representing their products honestly.
And we don’t appreciate being misled.
If we’re in the supermarket we expect the label to match what’s in the box. And when we buy power we expect the same.
If your products generate pollution that harms the climate our kids are growing up in, don’t market them to us as ‘green’ or ‘carbon neutral’.
If you’re misleading us into buying polluting products when we’re trying to buy clean energy, you’re misleading us into harming our kids when we’re trying to protect them.
It's our job to protect our kids. And it’s our job to teach them there are consequences for misleading behaviour, so we’re taking a stand.
Advertise the climate impact of your products honestly, so we can make real choices about what we buy.
And change your business from polluting to clean renewable energy.
Sincerely,
Australian parents, grandparents, carers and family members.
We need all power companies to know we've had enough of greenwashing. Can you sign now?
Update: We raised our voices and they backed down!
After Parents for Climate spoke out in the media and collected hundreds of petition signatures, the committee has reversed its decision to delay the report until July, and instead released it on March 31.
The Senate inquiry into household electrification promised answers on how switching to clean energy can cut power bills and keep families safe. But despite clear evidence that electrifying homes can save households up to $1,000 a year, the final report is being delayed until after the federal election.

We call on the Senate Economics References Committee and chair Senator Andrew Bragg to release the Household Electrification Report immediately. Families have the right to know how clean energy can reduce living costs, improve home safety during extreme weather, and create healthier spaces for our kids.
🔆 Sign now to demand transparency and solutions that put Australian families first.
To Senator Andrew Bragg and the Senate Economics References Committee,
We call on you to release the Household Electrification Report immediately. Families deserve clear information on how electrification can cut energy bills, improve health, and make homes safer - now, not after the election.

Energy costs are an increasing burden and too many schools and early childhood centres are missing out on the benefits of bill-busting clean energy installations.
Solar and batteries for all schools and childcare centres can save schools money, reduce childcare costs, and employ thousands of people - it’s a win-win-win.
This is Australia’s largest clean energy proposal that will benefit every community in the country.
But it won’t happen without our support. We need to build an unstoppable wave of positive support for schools and early learning powered by clean energy. Add you name to the letter to state and federal leaders to show your support.
