    • Listen without judgement to what people say
    • Ask questions and seek to understand
    • Focus on the vision you are hopeful for
    • Help people see their place in the solutions we need
    • Talk about your feelings, what you are doing and why you are motivated to act

Here's a recap from our collaboration webinar with ACF and Climate for Change on how to have great climate conversations. Or read the top 5 tips below.

Tip #1: Ask questions, seek to understand
  • 'How are you feeling about...'
  • 'How do you think climate change is impacting your life and the lives of people around you?'
  • 'Why do you say that?' 'Tell me more about...'
Tip #2: Listen without judgement
  • Listen without interrupting
  • People need to feel heard and empowered to act with confidence
  • Consider what vales are sitting under the things they say? You may be able to find common ground with these
Tip #3: Focus on the vision
  • Too much focus on negative impacts of climate change chan make people switch off
  • Clean air, water, and renewable energy are appealing, as opposed to focus on the incumbent energy sources of coal and gas
Tip #4: Help people see their place in the solutions
  • Individual actions vs working together to push the people in power to act
  • Support people to start where they are, with action appropriate to them now
  • Keep taking steps towards stronger advocacy
Tip #5 Talk about your feelings, what you're doing and why
  • Why does climate change matter to you?
  • Research shows that people value the opinions of their friends, family and colleagues just as much as experts
  • Connect on a human level
