If you read our emails -- and please do! We strive to inform and delight -- you'll know we’re giving away Parents for Climate swag to anyone who helps get other parents involved in our Solar Our Learning campaign before May's federal Budget.
Every ten signatures you get on our open letter by that date gets you a sticker; if you get a hundred you get a t-shirt!
More details about the Solar Our Learning signup challenege are here if you want them, but right now the question now is: Can anyone beat Rob?!
Rob Chan is a volunteer with Parents for Climate Northern Sydney, and currently tops the leaderboard with 17 signatures collected.
See how happy he looks! He smiles like a man confident in his lead.
I thought you might like the opportunity to smile like this yourself, so I asked him why he got involved, and how he got signatures so quickly.
Mike
Rob! Why did you want to get involved in signing up other parents to the Solar Our Learning campaign?
Rob
I’m passionate about the potential that clean energy has for schools and childcares.
For example, a few months ago, our daycare centre asked parents to write down what they could do to show toddlers more about the environment and sustainability - I drew this!
Clean energy for schools and childcares can save them money while cutting pollution and creating jobs, so for me it’s a no-brainer!
But I also know politicians won’t support it unless they see public demand for it. So this was a great excuse to engage friends and family on my passion.
This referral campaign and the leaderboard just inspired me (I'm reasonably competitive and a data guy) to evangelise it.
Mike
That’s great! But how did you go about getting those signatures so quickly?
Rob
8am on Sunday, I DM'd in WhatsApp a bunch of folks that I knew were climate conscious (but haven't yet attended any of our meetups). I sent a message saying “Help me get a t-shirt!”, and included a pic of the t-shirt, and my personalised recruiter link.
And I shared it with another parent in our local Parents for Climate group, and since then we have a friendly banter to climb to the top.
