Minister for Infrastructure, Transport, Regional Development and Local Government
Dear Minister King,
We write to you as concerned parents, because the evidence is clear: truck pollution is harming our children, and the federal government has the power to act.
New research, authored by leading Australian academics has quantified what communities living on freight corridors have known for years.
Heavy vehicle exhaust emissions are causing preventable deaths and unnecessary illness. The annual health cost exceeds $6.8 billion - borne by patients, taxpayers, and workers.
Our children are the most vulnerable. They breathe faster. Their bodies are still developing.
This is a national problem. Freight corridors run through suburban streets in Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Perth and Adelaide. Parents in every capital city raise their kids in neighbourhoods, and send their children to schools where the air they breathe is making them sick and affecting their development.
Minister, this year your government will revise the Heavy Vehicle National Law. We urge you to use this opportunity to protect Australian children. Specifically, we call on you to:
We ask you to make children’s health part of the equation when you reform the Heavy Vehicle National Law this year. Our kids cannot wait.
Yours sincerely,
Parents for Climate
On behalf of parents, carers and grandparents across Australia
Add your name to stand with parents across Australia calling on Minister King to protect children from harmful truck pollution.
Every child deserves to breathe clean air — to play, learn and grow without pollution harming their lungs or their future.
But right now, air pollution from traffic, gas, and coal is putting our children’s health at risk. From asthma flare-ups to long-term impacts on brain development and heart health, poor air quality is silently damaging the next generation.
Children are more vulnerable. They breathe faster, spend more time outdoors, and their small lungs are still growing. Parents, carers, grandparents and educators across Australia are standing together to say: enough is enough.
We’re calling on all levels of government, federal, state and local, to take urgent action to protect children from air pollution by cleaning up transport, phasing out gas and coal pollution, and taking strong, coordinated steps to make the air around every child cleaner and safer.
Add your name to show your support for clean air for every child, everywhere.
Together, we can create cleaner, healthier communities for our kids - today and for the future.

We, the undersigned parents, carers, grandparents, educators and community members, urge all levels of government to take urgent action to protect children from air pollution caused by transport, gas, coal and bushfire smoke.
Air pollution harms children’s health - triggering asthma, damaging lungs and affecting brain development. Kids are more vulnerable because their lungs are still growing, and they breathe faster than adults, and they spend more time outdoors.
We call on governments to:
Every child deserves to breathe clean, healthy air and protecting them must be a top priority for every level of government.

The government’s own National Climate Risk Assessment confirms what parents across Australia already know: climate change is putting our kids and communities in danger.
As parents, we don’t take chances with our kids safety - whether it’s buckling a seatbelt, fitting a car seat, or being sun smart, we act on the best advice. We expect our government to do the same. That means shaping climate policy with science, not politics, and committing to net zero by 2035 with strong pollution cuts this decade. Anything less puts our kids' future at risk.
Dear Prime Minister and Ministers,
As parents, carers, grandparents and community members, we call on you to put the safety of our children at the centre of climate policy. The National Climate Risk Assessment highlights the escalating dangers of extreme heat, bushfires, floods, and other climate impacts. Just as parents act on expert advice to protect their children, we expect our government to act on the best available science. We urge you to adopt science-led climate policy that cuts pollution at the pace required, protects our communities, and gives every child the chance to grow up safe and healthy. Their safety cannot and should not wait.
Sincerely,
Australian parents, carers and grandparents and family members.
As parents committed to a safe climate for our children, we strive to make responsible choices. However, companies like EnergyAustralia have made this challenging by falsely marketing polluting products as ‘carbon neutral’.
In a landmark development, our legal action led to a settlement where EnergyAustralia publicly admitted that carbon offsets do not prevent or undo the harms caused by burning fossil fuels. They have ceased offering their 'Go Neutral' product to new customers and removed related marketing from their website.
This is a significant victory against greenwashing, demonstrating the power of parent-led action.
This win has put the industry on notice—but we need your help to keep up the pressure. Join us as we fight for honest climate claims, consumer protection, and a future free from fossil fuel spin.

Energy giant EnergyAustralia had been marketing electricity and gas from fossil fuels as ‘carbon neutral’, claiming they can ‘offset’ that pollution. But so-called ‘offsets’ are a type of marketing spin that enables companies to continue polluting, without making genuine cuts to their pollution.
It’s our job as parents to stand up for our kids, and to teach them there are consequences for misleading behaviour.
So we took EnergyAustralia to court, arguing that they have engaged in misleading or deceptive conduct. In a successful resolution, we forced EnergyAustralia to admit to the key facts of our case through a powerful public statement and an email to its customers. The company admitted that offsets should not be used to delay or diminish the important work needed to actively decarbonise. This outcome sets a precedent, signaling that misleading climate claims will not go unchallenged
While we've made significant progress with EnergyAustralia, the fight against greenwashing continues. We need your support to ensure all energy companies provide transparent and truthful information about their environmental impact.
That’s why we need you - and the people you can connect with - to sign our open letter calling on all power companies to stop greenwashing.
We need all power companies to know we've had enough of greenwashing. Can you sign now?
As parents, we’d do anything for our kids. We promise to protect them, guide them, and give them every chance at a safe, happy future. That’s why we’re coming together to take action on climate change.
Australia is home to 12.5 million parents — that’s 2 in 3 voters. When we raise our voices together, we can be a powerful force for change.
The Parent Pledge is a personal commitment to speak up, take action, and push for climate ambition — not just at election time, but every day. It’s a way to show candidates, communities, and each other: parents are paying attention, and we’re not backing down.
✅ Use my voice to call for a safer climate for our children
✅ Be a positive influence, speak up in my community, and bring others along
✅ Take action, big or small, to build a better future for the next generation
Update: We raised our voices and they backed down!
After Parents for Climate spoke out in the media and collected hundreds of petition signatures, the committee has reversed its decision to delay the report until July, and instead released it on March 31.
The Senate inquiry into household electrification promised answers on how switching to clean energy can cut power bills and keep families safe. But despite clear evidence that electrifying homes can save households up to $1,000 a year, the final report is being delayed until after the federal election.

We call on the Senate Economics References Committee and chair Senator Andrew Bragg to release the Household Electrification Report immediately. Families have the right to know how clean energy can reduce living costs, improve home safety during extreme weather, and create healthier spaces for our kids.

To Senator Andrew Bragg and the Senate Economics References Committee,
We call on you to release the Household Electrification Report immediately. Families deserve clear information on how electrification can cut energy bills, improve health, and make homes safer - now, not after the election.
