Book Review: Wild Creature Mind by Steve Biddulph

This book is dedicated to everyone working to turn back deadly climate change, to defeat the murderous power of the fossil fuel industry, and give the next generation a chance to survive - Steve Buddulph

Steve Biddulph has long been a beacon of wise guidance, inspiration and hope for parents, teachers, therapists and anyone seeking a more fulfilling experience of raising kids, mentoring kids and being human in this complex world. His latest book Wild Creature Mind (released in 2024) is a gift for humanity offering insights from neuroscience and clinical practice and a series of accessible ways to transform anxiety and live a fiercely loving life.

Perhaps you heard Steve speak briefly about his book and the inspiration for it at our Calling All Parents webinar in November last year?

Why is this book so important?

In the midst of a global mental health crisis and climate crisis - this is a book that can benefit those of us who are grappling with anxiety (our own and / or that of our kids, family members and friends), those of us who feel compelled to stand up for justice and a safe future and those of us who are feeling overwhelmed about what to do in the face of significant local and global challenges.

As Steve's dedication above suggests - this book is actually dedicated to us!

Connecting with your Wild Creature Mind

Readers are gently invited, again and again, to reconnect and to deepen their connection with their Wild Creature Mind - our “other” mind that is often underutilised in modern society to the detriment of ourselves, our families, of humanity and the web of life. This Wild Creature Mind is highly intelligent, insightful, aware and enables us to live with empathy. Through a series of relatable examples and simple, yet effective practices Steve shows us how to listen to and respect our Wild Creature Mind.

Throughout the book, Steve speaks to you, dear reader, from the perspective of a wise, yet humble elder and his care and compassion for the wellbeing and fate of humanity is clearly communicated on every page. It’s a special kind of book that makes you feel like you’ve been sitting with a dear friend who is offering you unconditional support and cheering you on to be all that you can be.

In a beautiful and troubled world where so much is at stake - our capacity to live a fiercely loving life is not just essential, it’s possible! Wild Creature Mind will help guide you and your loved ones along the way.
