Wednesday, April 1, at Parliament House, more than 25 parents and 16 children from across Australia met with over 25 MPs and Senators to call for cost-saving energy resilience through solar and batteries on every school and childcare centre.
The Solar Our Learning event brought together families, education and energy experts to present a practical, ready-to-go solution that cuts energy costs, reduces pollution, and strengthens energy security for communities.
Senior representatives including Assistant Minister Josh Wilson, Jerome Laxale and Zali Steggall addressed the room, reflecting strong political interest. The message resonated across the day: this is a “no brainer”, but the next step is turning that support into funded policy.
With rising energy costs and increasing extreme weather, parents are making it clear that schools must be equipped to stay safe, cool, and operational, now and into the future.

“This event demonstrates nationwide support for cost-saving resilience through solar and batteries on every school and childcare centre. Parents and kids from across Australia, supported by educators, teachers, and energy experts, engaged dozens of MPs and Senators. We heard again and again that this is a ‘no brainer’. Now it needs to be backed with real commitment.”
“Energy security means schools can stay safe and operate during heatwaves and extreme weather. Solar and batteries create education savings while helping keep classrooms cool, the lights on, and kids learning when it matters most.”
“This is a practical solution that cuts costs for schools, supports families, and prepares communities for what’s ahead. The policy is ready and the support is there, now it’s time for the Federal Government to deliver. We’re ready to work with them to make it happen.”
“It can feel like big decisions are out of parents’ hands, but this event showed the opposite. When parents and kids speak directly to decision-makers, it cuts through. Their stories make action feel both urgent and possible.”
