A Creative Way Through Climate Feelings: for our kids and ourselves

Climate change isn't just something happening "out there". It's already showing up in our kid’s lives, in their questions, their worries, and sometimes their quiet moments too. How we respond, to them and to ourselves, matters.

That's why we're delighted to share the Creative Acts for Climate Feelings booklet, co-created by Dr Chloe Watfern, Dr Diane MacDonald and Dr Priya Vaughan from the Black Dog Institute. Chloe (who is also a volunteer leader with Parents for Climate) recently hosted a session for parents to introduce this supportive, practical resource.

Designed for primary school-aged children, their parents or guardians, and educators, this free art activity booklet offers a creative approach to exploring climate-related emotions through art and play.

Working through the booklet is an opportunity for you and your family to:

  • Acknowledge that our feelings help us make sense of the world

  • Understand that creativity, like drawing, writing, or making something with your hands, can help kids and adults alike work through big emotions that are hard to put into words

  • Experience the positive impact of thoughtful, creative activities done together

Activities include doing nothing (yes, this is literally an activity!), exploring climate in your body, experiencing nature feels and writing thank you letters.

The beautiful thing about the booklet is that none of this requires getting it "right."
It's an invitation for you and your kids to feel supported, to notice what helps, and to know you're cared for and not alone.
