Last year, local dance and circus troupes and community groups danced, cartwheeled, and skated, flowing like the river in a parade down the street, along with the iconic and magnificient Wounded Wild Puppet and her cast of puppeteers. As part of the smoke and water ceremony, three generations of Wadandi women invited children to share a handful of healing water until the Wounded Wild puppet transformed, took flight and called in the rains. 600 people from our local community witnessed as a light rain began to fall and a rainbow magically appeared in the sky.
Instead of a street parade, for this years water ceremony, the beloved Wounded Wild Puppet will return as the Wondrous Wild. We invite all to dress up and bring a small container of water from your favourite place, whether its the river, the beach or your garden, to offer to a temporary 'pond' in the park. Then take water from the communal pond to give back to your favourite animal, the local birds, forest or marine creatures.
We are hosting a nature craft mask and costume making workshop at Gathered Organics on Saturday 2nd May 10am-12pm, where artists can help you make a mask and costume to honour your favourite animal or plant from natural and recycled materials (for more info: https://www.parentsforclimate.org/nature_craft_mask_costume_making_workshop ). If you're unable to make the workshop but wish to dress up, please feel free to make costumes at home if you have the time and creative energy.
