Email now: let's get solar and batteries for every NSW student

We won a big step forward in NSW for solar and batteries for every school and early learning centre!

The NSW Labor Conference passed a motion calling for solar & batteries for every public school and daycare in the state.  This is now official Labor party policy.  But it’s not government policy just yet.

Can you help us turn this party support into a funding commitment with an email to the Minister and opposition Shadow Minister?

Two short emails, to two key decision makers, asking if they will commit to funding solar and batteries for schools will make a big difference. With the NSW election coming up in March, politicians are listening to what parents want to see. We have drafted a template you can use with the key points below - and you can make it your own.

The current NSW Minister for Climate Change and Energy is Penny Sharpe: [email protected]

The Liberal Shadow Minister for Energy is James Griffin:  [email protected]

Dear Minister Sharpe,

Will you support solar and batteries for all NSW public schools and early learning centres?

I am very excited that the NSW Labor Conference voted for a motion calling for solar and batteries for all public schools and early childhood centres, demonstrating fantastic support.  I hope the support from the Labor party in NSW is the first step in committing to fund solar & batteries for every student in the state.  Will you respond to let me know if you will support funding for solar and batteries for all schools and early learning centres in NSW?

Schools and childcare centres are essential community infrastructure, yet they face rising energy costs and increasing pressure from extreme heat and climate impacts. Installing solar and batteries can deliver immediate and lasting benefits, and stimulate further energy upgrades to make education infrastructure more safe and resilient.

I think solar & batteries is a win-win.  It saves schools and early learning centres money that can go back into the things kids need to learn.  With batteries, it can provide cheaper clean energy to the rest of the community, in the evening, on weekends and during school holidays.  And most importantly, it can keep kids safe to learn with more frequent and severe disasters and extreme weather.  Principals shouldn’t have to worry about energy bills for air conditioning during a heatwave, and batteries could help schools stay open during blackouts.

In NSW, we’ve had the Smart Energy Schools pilot to show the benefits of solar at 79 schools.  Now it’s time for every student and teacher to get the benefits.

I look forward to hearing from you,

Dear Shadow Minister Griffin,

Will you support solar and batteries for all NSW public schools and early learning centres?

I am very excited that the NSW Labor Conference recently voted for a motion calling for solar and batteries for all public schools and early childhood centres, demonstrating fantastic support. I think this demonstrates growing support for an idea that the NSW Liberal Party championed in their last term.  Will you respond to let me know if you will support funding for solar and batteries for all schools and early learning centres in NSW?

Installing solar and batteries can deliver immediate and lasting benefits, and stimulate further energy upgrades to make education infrastructure more safe and resilient.

In 2022 the then NSW Liberal Government announced their aim to get solar onto 2,200 NSW schools.  This led to the Smart Energy Schools pilot that has shown the benefits of solar at 79 schools.  Now it’s time for every student and teacher to get the benefits.

I look forward to hearing from you,
