Clean Air for Kids: Every Child Deserves to Breathe Easy

Join parents, experts and educators to launch a national movement for cleaner air - at home, on the way to school, and in every classroom.

Every child has the right to breathe clean, healthy air.
Yet across Australia, children are exposed daily to harmful pollutants that affect their lungs, development and wellbeing - from vehicle exhaust, coal and gas projects, to bushfire smoke.

Air pollution is one of the biggest threats to children’s health, contributing to asthma, poor lung development and even cognitive delays. With one in six schools and childcare centres located near heavy traffic, too many kids are breathing dirty air every day.

Parents for Climate is proud to launch Clean Air for Kids. A powerful new collaboration between parents, educators and health professionals working to protect children’s health and build cleaner, safer communities.

Join us for this inspiring online event where we’ll:
🌿 Explore how air pollution is impacting children’s health, with special guest Dr Clare Walters (University of Melbourne).
👪 Hear real stories from parents and educators taking action for clean air in their communities.
🚗 Discover how we can make clean air a reality - through everyday choices, local action, and community-driven solutions that protect kids now and into the future.
💨 Get a first look at our upcoming Idle Off initiative, in partnership with Doctors for the Environment Australia.

This is the first step in a growing movement to give every child the right to clean air - at home, on the way to school, and in the classroom.

Together, we can create cleaner, healthier communities for our kids - today and for the future.

Guest Speaker Biography

Dr Clare Walter is a lecturer in Human Sciences and Health Geography at the University of Melbourne and undertakes research and policy work with Melbourne Climate Futures and Deakin University. She holds a cross-disciplinary PhD in Public Health and Policy from the University of Queensland, which examined the health impacts of air pollution in Australia and how evidence can inform more effective mitigation and public policy. Clare’s background as a clinical pharmacist, including work in lung cancer clinics at the Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre, shaped her interest in environmental exposures such as diesel exhaust and their links to non-smoking-related lung disease. Her current work spans environmental health, health service planning, and public policy analysis, with a focus on translating research into practical interventions. She has experience working across clinical, academic, and public health sectors, and is particularly engaged in evaluating models of care, analysing health and demographic data, and supporting public health advocacy.
