Are you are based in the Illawarra region? There is less than one week to add your voice to the Illawarra Offshore Wind proposal and support climate action. Can you make a submission in support? (It takes less than 5 minutes!) You can also make a submission if you are a regular visitor, holiday maker to the area or a member of the public who wishes to support a just transition to renewable energy projects.
There is a heated community debate, sadly with a lot of misinformation spreading fast.
We need to show there are community members who support the development of renewables, provided it is done right, so we can urgently reduce our carbon emissions and create a safe and thriving future.

Why do we need offshore wind?
Future energy is now
The world is moving to net zero carbon. Offshore wind farms play a key role in the transition away from polluting fossil fuels due to their capacity and reliability. The wind blows stronger at night, and complements Australia’s incredible solar resources during the day. Together they can provide sustainable energy around the clock.
Communities can benefit
While clean energy will power millions of homes, thousands of direct and indirect jobs will be created not just during the construction phase but also during the years of operation.
We have immense wind resources, a skilled workforce, existing port infrastructure and strong electricity grid connections making this an opportunity for our region to become a thriving clean industrial precinct and provide our kids with diverse job opportunities as they grow up.
This is the so called “Renewable Energy Superpower” – massive creation of new, valuable jobs based on clean energy right here in the Illawarra. We have the infrastructure and the people, we need to turn on the power!
The climate is in crisis
We are currently well off-track to meet global science recommendations of emissions cuts to avoid catastrophic impacts. We know that burning fossil fuels is a leading cause of climate change and we must transition to renewable sources of energy urgently. Fewer fossil fuels also means cleaner air and healthier communities.
Will you add your voice?
A local community alliance who care about climate change has formed, called Good for the Gong, and they have put together a useful submission guide, which includes how you could ask for the project to be done so that it best benefits the climate, the environment and the community. This is an excellent resource to refer to when completing the consultation survey or writing your submission.

Thank you for supporting climate action and a safe future in which our kids can thrive.
